Digital Divas Podcast

Welcome to our website!

We’re just two CTE teachers in the Elk Grove Unified School District (Northern California) that are passionate about teaching Career Technical Education!

The Divas

Dawn Williams is a Digital Media teacher at Franklin High School. She has over 22 years of experience teaching various subjects. She has been instrumental in the CTE Pathways at the school and built a weekday morning, LIVE broadcast program from the ground up. She is passionate about working with state-of-the-art editing programs such as Adobe Premiere and all things Adobe! This passion brought her teaching to a whole new level as it has allowed her students to learn robust, industry-standard software to make them ideal candidates for college media programs or entry-level media positions.

Lorna Miller is a Graphic Design & Art teacher at Franklin High School. She has over 22 years of teaching and graphics experience and as the CTE Department Chairperson at Franklin, plays a vital role in the vision and direction on the site CTE programs and at the district level. Lorna loves teaching students how to use fun and exciting programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator but she is even more passionate about teaching kids how to collaborate with another and take their projects to a whole new level.

The Podcast

It was one of those fun fun fun preservice meetings where we decided it might be fun to share “all things CTE” with a podcast! It’s difficult to get the news out there to the masses so what better way to deliver it, am I right? So on January 30, 2020, with the help of our producer, Delaire Doyle at Pleasant Grove High School, we recorded our very first podcast episode. Our first guest is none other than Kathy Hamilton. She is the VERY recently retired Director of College and Career Connections at EGUSD so who better to help us tell folks exactly what CTE is! Hence, out first episode’s title, “What is CTE?”

Episode 1: What is CTE? Featuring Kathy Hamilton

Listen to our very first podcast on Apple here! We invited former EGUSD Director of College and Career Connections, Kathy Hamilton, to join us on Episode 1 to help us explain what the heck CTE actually is! We also wanted to get a bit of a history of CTE in California AND in Elk Grove USD. You can also watch our YouTube video below!

Episode 2: How to Get Your CTE Credential Featuring Leeann O’Bear

Episode 2 features the amazing Leeann O’Bear, Outreach and Teacher Development Coach in the College and Career Connections Department at Elk Grove USD. One of the many aspects of her job (hint hint she’ll be back again) is helping prospective teachers with CTE Credentialing. If you are interesting in how to that take a listen here.
